When you built your home, you were just starting out as a couple and only thought about how good your home will look. But now that you’re a parent, you’re starting to understand the importance of creating a safe and functional space for your kids to enjoy.

You’re already looking for reliable fence installation services in Eugene, but here are more tips that you can follow in making your home more child-friendly:

  • Make sure that your property is secured.

If you still haven’t considered getting a fence, having children should be every reason to do it now. Although you can easily lock your doors and windows, your kids will eventually learn how to open them, especially when they’re older. It doesn’t matter if you’re living in a busy neighborhood or not, having a fence will always be one of the best ways to secure your property not only for your kids but also for your entire family.

  • Allocate a safe play space in your home.

Are you tired of picking up toys from every corner of your house? Are you constantly having to watch over your kids while they play? If your answer is yes, then it’s time to create a safe play space in your home. Kids thrive with a routine, so it’s very important to give them a space where they can have all their toys out and keep them in organised bins or cabinets at the end of the day. Since you’re dealing with little ones, you should think about safety among all things. Use soft flooring, make sure there are no sharp objects or heavy furniture anywhere, and of course, give your kids enough space to really move. You don’t actually need to fill up your play area since you can rotate toys to keep your children from getting bored with the same things.

  • Be more mindful of your furniture choices.

A lot of accidents can happen inside your home. A fall, a cut or a choking hazard—most of these accidents are actually the result of poor furniture choices. Just imagine a kid getting injured because of a sharp table corner or falling off a poorly built chair. You don’t want your kids to suffer from any of these injuries, so it’s very important to be more mindful with your choice of furniture. Now if you already have existing non-kid-friendly furniture and you still don’t have the budget to replace them, you can “child-proof” your furniture using corner guards and other things.

  • Make your home more livable for your children.

As much as you want to promote independence for your kids, they could be having a hard time sticking to their tasks or routines simply because they’re overwhelmed with using things that are not really made for them. Go around your house and assess the areas that your kids use the most, so you can think of ways on how to make these spaces more functional for the little ones. For instance, if your sink is too tall, you can add a safe stool to make brushing time a lot easier for your child even without much assistance from you. Or if you want your child to be more involved in the kitchen, you can create a safe ladder for him to stand at your height to help you prepare food. These simple upgrades will not only encourage your children to explore your home more, but it will also help you teach them more independence.

Finally, it’s very important to think about the little details around your house that could be a potential safety hazard for your children. For instance, if you have stairs, you should install safety gates to keep your toddlers from going up and down and putting them at risk for a fall. Now if you have a swimming pool in the backyard, you have to make sure that you have a fence or sturdy pool cover to keep the little ones from being in the pool without supervision. Keep in mind that a lot of children drown in Australia each year.

Now if you’re ready to invest in these upgrades, get in touch with us for your fencing installation needs, and we’ll take care of it for you.
